3 Day Soft Adventure tour from Canberra to Melbourne via the Snowy River |
Sample Itinerary
- Day 1: Snowy Mountains & Snowy River
-
Today you start a truly magnificent soft adventure journey through the largest National Park system in Australia and some of the most spectacular and remote regions this country offers. In the hands of your friendly MudMaps guide you'll discover this spectacular country and the special significance the Man from Snowy River legend has to Australians.
We start today's journey by making our way to Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains. From here we head into Kosciusko National Park, off the beaten track, through beautiful sub-alpine tall eucalypt forests and wind our way down to the intersections of the famous Snowy and Pinch Rivers. Enjoy a BBQ lunch (weather dependent) cooked over an open camp fire or a pub lunch in Jindabyne. Stopping often you'll discover places like Jacobs Ladder, Willis, the Pilot Wilderness and village of Suggan Buggan before
making our way onto "Springs" at Wulgulmerang and our high country hosts Bob & Esme Boys.
OVERNIGHT "SPRINGS' FARMSTAY (Private room with Shared Facilities). B/L/D
- Day 2: Snowy River National Park & McKillops Bridge
-
Following a hearty breakfast we make our way down towards McKillops Bridge, one of the few bridges crossing the remote Snowy River. Admiring the Snowy River N.P. scenery along the way we'll also stop to explore the Little River Gorge and/or hike to the waterfalls cascading off the Gelatipy Plateau. An optional visit to McKillops Bridge really does enforce the power that once flowed in the Snowy River. From here we travel through the Alpine N.P. in the shadow of the famous Cobberas twin-mountains and onto
the little towns of Benambra and Omeo.
OVERNIGHT DINNER PLAIN-OMEO AREA. B/L/D
- Day 3: Bogong High Plains & onto Melbourne
-
If you're a little adventurous a morning horseback trek through the Snow Gum forest to many spectacular lookout vantage points near Dinner Plain (own cost). Perhaps enjoying a cooked breakfast around an open camp fire. If not we still spend the morning exploring other parts of the Bogong High Plains in the Victorian High Country perhaps including a native forest bush walk, little towns like Harrietville, Mt Hotham and Bright, farming communities or the nearby ski fields. Making our way out of the
mountains and onto Melbourne in the afternoon.
